Blog 4 - Carlos Mencia

Carlos Mencia is trying to say its okay to not be politically correct and also that the school system has lowered its standards for the sake of being politically correct. I think he's trying to address leaders in America who propose this kind of mentality and anyone who is overly sensitive to these issues. I think he's harsh in his delivery (he is a comedian after all), so he probably isn't going to be successful with everyone. I believe he is right about our excessive euphemisms and I do agree this has caused lower standards for the school system. But, at least from watching these two videos, the points he makes seem like obvious things. He is funny but no funnier than anyone else delivering a similar message might be. He lacks originality and uses vulgar language excessively but I do agree with his message.

Dark Days

The documentary "Dark Days" was pretty eye-opening. I never knew people could live under the subway. They make shelter for themselves, they cook, they entertain, they even have pets. These people created their own community away from the streets. But the conditions under the subway are disgusting so you must wonder how bad their health is. I saw that none of the homeless people wanted to go to shelters because they thought it was worse than where they were living. This is a serious wake-up call for officials. I think shelters need more supervision, or shelters should resemble a small housing community rather than just a shelter. As for the issues we discussed, I do still think that people are given many opportunities to improve themselves, but sometimes these options are not desirable, or, sometimes people do not wish to take the opportunities.

Miss South Carolina

I guess it's a good idea that she went on national television to address her issue. I also do not see how she had gotten so far in the competition when she is so dim-witted. She is only 18 so maybe she wasn't mature enough or simply wasn't prepared enough to answer such questions. This whole situation reminds me of elementary school. When something embarrassing happens to a kid, everyone rags on them for a week or two. Then people forget about it. Hopefully, her going on the today show will advance the teasing process. As for her conduct on the show, she presents herself fairly well.

First Entry

I've had blogs before, usually just for a few months. Sometimes they'd reach the one year marker but barely. There are so many blogging sites, it's hard to actually have all your friends at a specific one. Usually, in blogs, I'd write about once a month and include a lengthy, detailed account of various annoying encounters, exciting news, encrypted messages or jokes, etc. People have read my previous blogs and gotten mad, because I make fun of them often. I've never been part of Blogger.com so this would be my first entry on this site. I don't mind having personal thoughts and insights on the internet. And if there's something I really know I shouldn't post, I won't. So I don't really think it is an invasion of privacy. And besides, blogs can always be deleted. I don't see any harm in them and I like them. I really enjoy street style blogs. These are operated by a group of people who photograph interesting and eccentrically dressed people in everyday life, not runways. Here's an example of one: http://manchesterlooks.blogspot.com/
I also enjoy the common-interest communities of blogs ( I'm usually on LJ for the various communities). Some of my favorite communities are persiancats, mac_cosmetics, and t_shirt_surgery.
